Foster Agreement

Thank you so much for fostering one of our rescued animals!

We are very grateful for our foster homes! Please read our foster information below completely, fill out the contact form then complete the Foster Questionnaire. We look forward to working with you. Fosters like you help us save many more lives than we could without you. We are a volunteer run rescue and as such rely on people who volunteer their time and may have full time jobs. Please try to contact your Foster Coordinator first with questions, but please give them time to respond in case they have a full time job.

  1. Each foster animal is the sole property of Lake Lowell Animal Rescue (LLAR).

  2. Fosters are certainly encouraged to apply to adopt a foster animal if they are interested in becoming that pet's forever home. The application process for a foster is the same as that for any other applicant, including the adoption fee. Fostering an animal does not in any way guarantee acceptance of an adoption application. Fosters generally have first option to adopt (pending approved application) until there is another approved application in line. Then they move behind that application or applications.

  3. Any medical treatment, medications/supplements, alternative therapy, or change in diet must first be approved by LLAR. Fosters must use the rescue’s recommended veterinarian if the animal needs medical care, not personal vets.

  4. If needed, LLAR will provide food and litter for the duration of the pet's stay with you. Generally speaking, all food and supplies need to be picked up by the foster from our storage facility in Nampa.

  5. Each foster will have a dedicated Foster Coordinator. This will be your main contact. They will reach out weekly for updates including pictures. If you need supplies, including food, or have concerns please reach out to them via text, or call them if urgent. If you cannot reach them for any reason please text our main number 208.505.8724 and we will get back to you as soon as we are able. This could be up to two days if we are involved in emergency medical care or are onboarding rescued animals with immediate needs.

  6. The foster may be required to provide transport for the foster animal for medical appointments as needed. If the foster is unable to provide transport, LLAR will do everything in its power to provide reasonable transport whenever possible.

  7. Cats are not to be allowed outside; they must be fostered as an "indoor only" cat.

  8. LLAR strongly encourages the foster home to keep personal pets/other foster animals separated from this foster pet(s). Although we attempt to ensure each animal is healthy, there is no way to guarantee animal health. LLAR does not take responsibility for other animals in the home, and cannot provide medical care to pets other than LLAR animals.

  9. We can take the foster pet back at any time, but we do ask for advance notice if possible so we can find another foster placement for the pet. LLAR does not have a dedicated building to house rescued animals and relies on foster families.

  10. Any and all pictures or social media posts in regards to foster animals must be approved by the rescue prior to posting.

  11. Foster animal(s) will always be transported inside a fully enclosed metal vehicle’s passenger cabin/compartment, preferably in a secured crate attached to the vehicle (by securing with a seatbelt or other method), but tethered to the vehicle’s seatbelt is allowed. Transporting foster animal(s) in or on the back of a vehicle that is open or covered that is not the passenger cabin/compartment is not allowed. It does not matter if the animal(s) is tethered or in a carrier.  Transporting in truck beds, flat beds, open or fabric/plastic covered vehicles with roll cages/bars, commercial vans, or any type of offroad vehicle is not allowed. Failure to comply with this rule will result in forfeiture of your foster animal to LLAR and future fostering privileges will not be allowed.

  12. Any adoption inquiries regarding foster animals need to be directed to Lake Lowell Animal Rescue. It is the rescue’s decision in final adoption choices. Foster homes are not allowed to place the animals into new homes, or give any assurances on placement until LLAR has completed the approved application process.

  13. If you are applying to foster a puppy, please be aware the puppy cannot be taken to any public places, including sidewalks, unfenced yards, pet stores, parks or stores of any kind unless and until cleared by a member of LLAR management to do so.

  14. Once animals are given names by LLAR, please do not change them. It is difficult for the animals to constantly adjust to new names, and can cause problems with our paperwork.

  15. We do not allow “meet and greets”. to be scheduled by the fosters. They must be scheduled through your Foster Coordinator, the Director, or the Assistant Director. Meets are usually exclusively done at the Rescue facility in South Nampa, but can sometimes be done at one of our adoption partners such as PetSmart or Petco.

  16. LLAR animals are NOT to leave the foster home without permission from one of the Directors. Foster animals should not have play dates with any animals that do not permanently reside in the foster home to avoid the possible spread of disease. Guests should always wash their hands before and after handling the foster animal.
